It’s time to take a break.
This device, this very piece of technology you’re reading this on is slowly pulling you away from what really matters: YOUR MENTAL HEALTH
When was the last time you took a day for yourself? When was the last time you totally unplugged from social media? From technology as a whole? When was your last technology fast?
Now, as you’re reading this, in this moment, take 5 minutes. Stop reading this right now, put 5 minutes on the clock, close your eyes, and just breathe.

Okay. How was that?
Did you think about who might have messaged you? Maybe what new followers or likes you got on Instagram? If you don’t check those things right away, things WILL be okay. I promise.
You see, technology is a really useful tool. It connects us to our friends near and far. It allows us to share our creativity and knowledge in an instant to thousands. It also gives us unlimited room to learn and grow into who we’d like to be. A useful tool. But when we abuse a useful tool, it soon becomes a necessity, and sometimes even shifts into an addiction.
Within this technology addiction, we might find ourselves so immersed that we are unaware we don’t know who we are or what we stand for. Everything we do relies on a post, like, follow, or, quite frankly, an unimportant acknowledgement from others that ‘like’ and ‘follow’ just as much as we do.
Connection is Important
Now, important connections can grow if we use this tool mindfully. Connecting with people of like-minded or even diverse values to then meet up in person or collaborate on the next big project. But those genuine human connections only truly prosper if we put down the phone, close the computer, and show up face to face with another human (or sometimes, even ourselves).
So, no, you don’t need to throw your device away. But you also don’t even need your device as much as you think. Take a few days off. Take a technology fast. See what connections or insights might birth in its place.
